Child Development/ Early Childhood is a terrific major in 2008. Many state and national initiatives are focusing on quality instruction for young children.
Amarillo College is proud to serve as Lead Agency for The Texas Early Education Model. This grant from the State Center for Early Childhood Education at UT - Houston focuses on highly trained teachers, research based curriculum and individual assessments. Students in this major will observe in state and nationally recognized pre-school classrooms located in the Child Development Lab School on West Campus.
In addition, the Lab School is able to support students interested in working with infants and toddlers or parent education. The Associate Degree can be transfered to other universities in several degree paths. The student will also find that an Associate Degree opens doors to local job opportunities. Some course work will allow students to work directly with the children in the Lab School where they will gain valuable experience.
