Fire Protection

The Regional Fire Academy provides standardized training at a reasonable cost with convenient schedules for students. Professional firefighters can take courses to achieve promotion and advancement. Volunteer firefighters can maintain or improve their skills so they may better serve their communities. Those entering this dynamic career can complete the training required of a basic firefighter before taking a fire department entrance examination.

In addition to an Associate Degree in Fire Protection Technology and the Basic Firefighter Certificate of Completion, AC and area fire departments--Amarillo Fire Department, Pantex Fire Department, Potter County Fire Department, and Randall County Fire Department--offer continuing education courses that satisfy the TCOFP and the State Fireman's and Fire Marshall's Associations training requirements.

You will learn:

  • emergency medical technology
  • health and safety
  • strategies and tactics
  • and multiple classes on fighting fires

The day Academy starts in August and ends in December. The night Academy starts in August and ends in May.
