Meter installers and repairers mount and install meters and other equipment, such as time clocks, transformers and circuit breakers. They also perform a variety of other duties:
- inspect and test electric meters, relays and power, to detect cause of malfunction and inaccuracy
- splice and connect cable from meter or current transformer to pull box or switchboard
- disconnect and removeds electric when defective
- record meter reading and installation data
- repair electric meters and components
How long will it take?
Meter installers and repairers need a knowledge of machines and tools, circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software.
At AC, you can gain these skills through Continuing Education classes, a certificate program or an Associate's Degree. You could be trained in as few as 33 credit hours.
How much will you earn?
Average salaries range from $10 - 20 per hour.

Most meter installers and repairers work for utility companies across the country.
