Calibration Technicians

 

The Certified Calibration Technician tests, calibrates, maintains and repairs:

  • electrical instruments
  • mechanical instruments
  • electromechanical instruments
  • analytical and electronic measuring instruments
  • recording and indicating instruments
  • equipment for conformance to established standards

Calibration technicians also prepare written procedures and ensure their proper implementation as well as oversee calibration activities.



How long will it take?

Most employers require a four-year degree in a related technical discipline that includes a background in mathematics and physics and strong written and verbal communication skills. Calibration technicians must also do extensive on-the-job training and certification is recommended through the American Society for Quality (ASQ).

How much can you earn?

Salaries range from $10 - $20 per hour, depending on education and experience.

Where can you work?

Most calibration technicians work for manufacturing companies. Some also work in the architectural and engineering industries, or for government agencies.
